It's ska. Yes it is s.k.a...ska. I'm in the mood for ska music. For the past two days, I kept playing the tunes from Dance Hall Crashers, Save Ferris and Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Funky and relaxing. Ska (pronounced /ska/ or in Jamaican Patois /skja/) is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1950s and was a precursor to rocksteady and reggae.

Ska combined elements of Caribbean mento and calypso with American jazz and rhythm and blues. It is characterized by a walking bass line, accented guitar or piano rhythms on the offbeat. In the early 1960s, ska was the dominant musical genre of Jamaica, and it was also popular with British mods. Many skinheads, in various decades, have also enjoyed ska (along with reggae, rocksteady and other genres).Music historians typically divide the history of ska into three periods: the original Jamaican ska scene of the 1960s, the 2 Tone ska revival that started in England in the late 1970s, and the third wave ska movement, which started in the 1980s.

Third Wave Ska
In the 1980s, bands influenced by the 2 Tone ska revival began to form in the United States and other countries.The first well-known American ska revival band was The Toasters, who played in a 2 Tone-influenced style and paved the way for the third wave ska movement. Other notable early third wave ska bands included The Uptones, Fishbone, Operation Ivy, Let's Go Bowling and Bim Skala Bim.

Many third wave ska bands played ska punk and it's subgenre, ska-core. Ska punk took 2 Tone and increased the punk rock elements while ska-core blended ska with hardcore punk. However, some third wave ska bands — such as The Allstonians, Hepcat and The Slackers — continued to play in a more traditional 1960s-influenced style. By the early 1990s, ska revival and ska punk bands were forming throughout the United States and many other countries. An enormous growth of the ska punk genre occurred after the ska-core band Mighty Mighty Bosstones signed with Mercury Records in 1993 and appeared in the film Clueless with their first mainstream hit "Someday I Suppose". No Doubt, Sublime, Reel Big Fish, Suicide Machines, Less Than Jake and Goldfinger also gave the ska genre more mainstream attention. By the late 1990s, mainstream interest in third wave ska bands waned as other music genres gained momentum. Some of the most popular ska punk bands have maintained a steady following in the 2000s, although many of those bands have moved away from their earlier ska-influenced sound to embrace other genres.

Hard work paid off!

Setelah dua minggu aku bermati-matian menyiapkan Research Proposal, akhirnya ianya telah siap di pinda dan diubah mengikut kehendak lecturer aku. Penat buat benda ni. Sampai nak muntah buat amendments.

Bila buat proofread nampak bahagian ni tak kena, lepas tu bahagian yang itu tak kena.

Naik pening. Topic aku? User perception and expectations. Topic yang dipilih oleh lecturer aku. Before this, topic yang aku nak cater ialah information literacy. But, lecturer aku kata aku punya nampak macam user perception, jadi disarankan aku buat topic tu.

By today aku akan hantar, by hook or by crooked.

Wind of Change - This is not Scorpion's Song!

Apabila membaca sebuah berita yang memaparkan saranan kerajaan kepada semua rakyat yang ada di tanah Malaysia ni, aku hampir tergelak. Antara saranan yang diujarkan ialah agar rakyat menukar gaya hidup dan berbelanja berhemah. Lantas aku terus teringat dengan slogan kepimpinan melalui teladan. Adakah ramai orang-orang besar kita yang bergaji 10,000 - 18,000 RM ni sanggup mengikat perut dan mengubah gaya hidup mereka?
Seperti burung kakak tua berkata-kata lagak diaorang ni. Sapa yang sebenarnya patut mengubah gaya hidup? Kita atau diaorang? Kita yang selama ini yang dah banyak mengikat perut dan juga bahagian abdomen serta lemak (tak termasuk liposuction) disuruh ubah lagi gaya hidup dan mengutamakan pengangkutan awam.
Persoalan mengenai pengangkutan awam kita, adakah berkeupayaan untuk menampung jumlah pengguna yang akan mengubah cara hidup mereka dan cara mereka spending money? Malah inilah yang menyebabkan anak saudara aku terlibat dengan kemalangan sewaktu mengikut ayah dia nak menghantar kakak ipar aku kerja setiap pagi. Kenapa? Sebab komuter yang menjadi pengangkutan utama ke pejabat tak berdaya menampung kenaikan jumlah penumpang. Kat sini kat mana efficiency-nya rakyat kena mengubah gaya hidup?

Masih lagi berkisar dengan gaya hidup, mampukah pak-pak menteri kita hidup secara sederhana atau zuhud? Hidup seperti mana Dato' Nik Aziz yang berala kadar dalam kehidupan, tak de pakai Spark Manshop, Gucci dan anak-anak tak bermewah-mewah.
Atau macam YB Lim Guan Eng yang diaorang kata nampak dia naik kapalterbang duduk kat kelas ekonomi.
Apa yang jelas, masih lagi tak mematuhi kepimpinan melalui teladan. Barangkali mereka ni masih lagi berhoneymoon. Mungkin...?

Walaupun kerajaan suruh berbelanja berhemah dan mengurangkan outstation kat luar, masih ada lagi ketua jabatan yang degil. Suruh pegawai bawahan pergi meeting kat luar yang kadang-kadang dalam sebulan 5 - 6 kali. Payah betul, dan aku adalah salah seorang pegawai yang kadang-kadang kena bermesyuarat di luar. Disebabkan minyak dah naik jadi agak sukar untuk mendapatkan kenderaan pegawai sebab yang lain-lain pun nak guna kenderaan pegawai.

Two job at the time

From this moment, I'll be doing double job in a row. As an officer at the office, after 5 pm I'll be doing domestic housework. I'll taking over it from my wife. She is drowning with her allergies due to her pregnancy. So, no hoping around after 5 pm.

It is good when you are still in semester break. Less tension on the study site. But the tension and stress from your job site will eat you alive. With the boss whose going to retired, you will doing more work than exactly you always doing. The statement that you will always heard is " I want to see before I retired." Sometimes when you conceptualize the idea, it is nice to hear and easy to say with your mouth full of saliva. But on the real world you'll stuck with everything around you. Manpower, budget, bureaucracy, your own brain and activities outside your office.
Thousand of meetings also will increase your inefficiecy in doing your job. That's why people always said, government servants always have more meeting than taking swift action. And I'll agree with that.

Malang tak berbau

Kadang-kadang apa yang dikatakan oleh nenek moyang kita dulu ada betulnya. Tapi mungkin kebetulan sahaja atau memang itulah suratan ketentuan Allah. Last week memang perkara yang mengejutkan juga. By Friday last week, aku terima berita yang mana biras aku dan anaknya kemalangan. Dan yang paling mengejutkan anak saudara aku yang berumur 3 tahun itu, patah kedua-dua kakinya dilanggar kereta akibat kemalangan itu. Pada masa yang sama isteri aku demam dan kami dapat menziarahi pada hari ahad.
Alhamdulillah, anak saudara aku tu masih mampu lagi bergelak ketawa main handphone emaknya. Ambik gmabar sana, ambik gambar sini. Namun, dia masih trauma dan phobia untuk naik motosikal. Keluarlah statement berikut, " ayu tak nak naik motor lagi."

Malam esoknya selepas melawat anak saudara aku, kami sekeluarga dikejutkan pulak oleh berita mengenai adik ipar aku. Kali ini berkaitan kejadian ragut. Adik ipar aku dapat kecederaan selepas pergelutan dengan peragut yang nak meragut purse kawan dia. Dia tendang motor peragut tu, dan peragut tu tendang motor dia menyebabkan dia jatuh dan badannya terhentak pada pembahagi jalan. Sehari selepas kejadiaan, dah tak boleh bangun dan badannya lebam-lebam. Lupa nak bagitau yang adik ipar aku perempuan. Lepas satu-satu peristiwa yang tak best berlaku. Malah lepas ni ade benda yang tak best kena kat aku, mulai Jun ni aku dah start kena potong duit pinjaman perumahan.
Apa yang tak bestnye pulak? Rumah yang aku beli tak siap lagi!

Back into the real world

I'm just got back from my on-leave. I'm not had a vacation. It's just a hard-work-for-a-wedding job that I had to gave full of commitment to ensure it will succeed.
Like I said earlier, it was not a vacation. Unfortunately, people perceptions were out of control. Being an orphaned without a father, I'm the one to relied on.
